The Emma Poplin-Revels Benefit, held Saturday for a 2-year-old with leukemia, was “very successful,” according to event organizer Melanie Scercy.
The benefit was held nearly all day Nov. 3 at the Circle G Arena in Lilesville, with activities available for visitors of all ages. A bake sale, silent auction, T-shirt and button sale, raffle for items such as a motorcycle, and more were available for adults, in addition to activities such as facepainting, ball toss, duck pond, bean bag toss, wagon rides, cornhole and a ‘fishing’ booth enjoyed by children. Nighthawk, a local band with Gary Gilmore and Gary Young, two former members of Borderline, played at the benefit later that evening.
Scercy said that the benefit enjoyed a slow but steady stream of guests, guessing that several hundred had come by mid-afternoon and anticipating more for dinner and the band.
“It was great; we’ve had a lot of people working really hard to pull everything together,” she said. “We’ve had some wonderful results with the raffle ticket sales, which have been going on for six weeks.”
