Softball player Taylor Bates, a senior at Anson High School, signed with Wingate University on Nov. 16.

Bates has played softball since she was 11 and was excited for this next step. “It was a great achievement,” she said. “I’ve been working hard and it’s all paying off.”

She said she was grateful for her AHS coaches’ help. “I couldn’t have down it without them,” she said. “They pushed me when I didn’t think I could. They got me to the next level.”

Bates’ parents, stepparents and coaches and a couple of close friends were all present for the signing. “We’re really proud of her,” Mellissia Bates, Taylor’s stepmother, said.

“I’d like to thank the Wingate coaches for giving me the opportunity,” Bates added.
