Hundreds of local senior citizens packed the Ingram Room of the Lockhart-Taylor Center on Thursday for the annual senior Christmas luncheon, hosted by Grace Senior Center.

Before the seniors enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal and dessert, Grace Senior Center director Bernice Bennett gave an invocation and thanked all those present for attending. County Commission Chair Anna Baucom spoke as well, recognizing fellow Commissioners Ross Streater and Bobby Sikes, Wadesboro Mayor Bill Thacker, former Morven mayor Carolyn Solomon, County Clerk Bonnie Huntley and County Manager Lawrence Gatewood.

“Bernice Bennett and her staff do a wonderful job,” Baucom said.

The seniors were encouraged not to forget to sign up for Medicare Part D and also were given information on SHIIP , the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program.

Scott Collier, who manages the Lockhart-Taylor Center for South Piedmont Community College also spoke, and told the seniors it was a blessing for him to be able to socialize with them. He also reminded the seniors that they are entitled to two classes per semester, tuition-free. “You’re never too old to go to college,” he said.
