The year 2012 brought new leadership to the town of Wadesboro, after Town Manager John Witherspoon retired in June, and former Police Chief Janie Schutz moved to Oregon in September.

Since Witherspoon and Schutz’s departure, Cecil Wood has served as interim town manager and Thedis Spencer has served as interim police chief.

Witherspoon had served as Wadesboro town manager for nine years, after a long career in town management in other parts of the state. He originally moved to Wadesboro to retire, but ended up serving as town manager instead.

Schutz had been police chief since March 2009, and was sworn in as police chief in Forest Grove, Ore., on Sept. 26. Her nearly four-year term as Wadesboro chief was her first time as a town police chief.

In an exit interview with The Anson Record in September, she said, “I did do the job well. I do think Wadesboro’s a better place. It’s not perfect, but it’s better.”
