A 17-year old girl died in a wreck Tuesday morning, according to law enforcement officials.

Mary Beth Lear of Wadesboro was identified as the victim. She was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle.

Lear was traveling north on Parson Grove Church Road in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer when, for reasons not yet known, she crossed over into the other lane onto the shoulder and overcorrected, going off the road, Trooper Bryan Ratliff of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said. He added that she did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The wreck occurred at approximately 7 a.m. in the vicinity of 1654 Parson Grove Church Road in Lilesville.

The girl was not wearing a seat belt, state highway patrol district secretary Janet Ross said.

I bet it was a deer or some animal running out in the road. Deer kill more people than tornadoes!
