Anthony Markee Allen, whose address is listed as Salisbury Street in Wadesboro, was arrested at approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday night. "He was arrested without incident, walking on North Main Street," Chief Schutz said.
Allen has been charged with murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old James Patrick Pickett of Wadesboro. Pickett's body was found lying in the front yard of a residence on Salisbury Street in Wadesboro just before midnight on Sunday, May 3. Pickett had been shot once in the face and once in the back, Detective Sgt. Brandon Chewning said.
"We have what we consider a very strong case," the police chief said, adding, "I am certain that we will be making more arrests in this homicide."
She declined to discuss a motive or provide any more information on others who may have been involved in Pickett's murder.
Since the murder over a month ago, Chief Schutz said she and her detectives have put in "countless hours," trying to solve the case. "I have been pushing my guys and they have been giving 110 percent," she said. "Since the day this happened, they've come through with flying colors."
In addition to Chewning, Detective Lewis McLendon also worked heavily on the case, the chief said.
As of Monday, Allen was being held in the Anson County Jail without bail.
