The three Anson County Commissioners up for re-election filed Monday. From left, Commissioners Claude Spencer and Jim Sims, Board of Elections director Tasha Coleman and Commission Chair Anna Baucom.
Election filing began Monday at noon.

Several local Democrats were waiting for the clock to hit 12. Sheriff Tommy Allen was the first to officially submit his paperwork.

"I'm looking forward to serving," he said.

"I didn't do this much signing when I got married," County Commission Chair Anna Baucom joked. She filed for a second term representing District 5.

"I'm committed to working on [the voters'] behalf," she said.

Anson County Clerk of Superior Court Mark Hammonds was present as well. He said he was humble and grateful for the opportunity, promising to serve the county with integrity.

Commissioner Claude Spencer began the filing process and planned to finish it later Monday. If re-elected, it will be his second term representing District 2.

His campaign slogan is "One voice, one vote, but together we can make a difference."

Commissioner Jim Sims was the third from the board to file for re-election. No other commissioners are up for re-election in 2010.

"I'm going to work as effective and efficiently and industriously as I possibly can," he said. A former superintendent of Anson County Schools, Sims is running for a fourth term to represent District 4.

The last day to file for election is Feb. 26 at noon. Primaries are May 4 and the general election is Nov. 2.
