The Bearcats won the coin toss, and got a good start in the first quarter, playing strong defense and keeping the Warriors pinned down on any turnovers.
Diondre Pratt scored the first touchdown for Anson, and the kick for the extra point was good, bringing the score to 7-0 with two minutes on the clock. The Bearcats continued to show excellent defense, holding the Warriors back, and the first quarter ended with Anson in the lead.
In the second quarter, the Warriors came back for blood and quickly scored a touchdown and extra point, tying up the score at 7-7. The Bearcats responded with a touchdown by Roderick Evans, maintaining their lead, but the kick failed for the extra point. The second quarter ended with a 13-7 score.
The third quarter went well for the Bearcats at first, with their third touchdown by Jonathan Hough. The Bearcats attempted a two-point conversion but it failed, bringing the score to 19-7.
The mood of the game changed when Bearcats player Jamarcus Tillman received a nasty blow to the head and was down on the field. It was a scary moment for many, especially the coaches, as Tillman was unable to speak at first, such was the force of the blow. Fortunately no serious harm was done, and Tillman is now recovering. The game recommenced and the Warriors closed out the third quarter with a touchdown of their own, making the score 19-14.
The fourth quarter was exciting as both teams gave it their best. The Warriors managed another touchdown and two-point conversion, putting the score at 19-22. The Bearcats refused to go down without a fight, and with 20 seconds on the clock they were poised at the Warriors' one-yard line in a close attempt to save the game. A false start was called on the Bearcats, and with three seconds left and five yards to go they made a good pass attempt, but it fell incomplete. Time ran out, and the game ended 19-22. With the injury of a player and such a close finish, this certainly was an intense game for the Bearcats.
Overall Anson finished with 38 rushes for 111 yards, and 314 yards passing. Weddington made 90 yards rushing, and 150 yards passing.
With this loss the Bearcats are down 2-6. The Bearcats will play against Marvin Ridge at homecoming this Friday night, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m.
