ANSONVILLE — Joe Carpenter, 93, died Monday, July 16, 2012 in CMC-Union Hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Bost and Rev. Fred Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family greeted friends in the church before the service.

Carpenter was born in Anson County on Sept. 18, 1918, a son of the late Fred Perry and Ellen Inez Tucker Carpenter. He was a retired self-employed home builder and married to the late Jewell Bailey Carpenter.

Survivors include his daughter, Joann C. Tarlton of Ansonville; his son, Joey (Kris) Carpenter of Concord; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Frances High and Lula Nell Kiker, both of Ansonville; and a brother, Steve Carpenter of Ansonville.
