Student-athletes honored by school

WADESBORO — Anson High School has been recognizing senior athletes that participated in Spring sports in a series of daily Facebook posts since April 27. Each post highlights a different student-athlete.

The Facebook posts give a brief bio of the student and provide information such as how what sport they play, how long they’ve played it, any extra-curricular activities they participate in, what they plan to do in the future, and their favorite memories.

For a lot of these students, their favorite memories happen traveling to and from games.

“A lot of them, their favorite memories was the bus rides with their teammates,” said Anson High School Principal Chris Stinson. “On these trips, they get to know one another a little better and work on building relationships that they’ll cherish for a lifetime.”

In addition to these Facebook posts, there will be a virtual Sports banquet on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. on the Anson High School Facebook page and a virtual Scholarship night on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. on the Anson County Schools Facebook page.

“We wanted to give them a virtual senior night to tell them how we appreciated what they’ve done for Anson High School and our athletic program,” said Stinson. The banquet will be broadcasted via Facebook Live on the Anson County Schools Facebook page.

The Anson County Board of Education will be honoring all Anson County High School Graduates in a drive-thru graduation ceremony beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 23.

As part of this ceremony, seniors will exit their vehicle for his/her Principal to award their diploma. Seniors may have two vehicles for family members to accompany them.

Family members will watch from the vehicle as their Graduate receives his/her diploma. Graduates should wear academic regalia (gowns, caps, tassels, etc. purchased at each school) for the ceremony.

“Honoring each graduate is important to us so ceremonial music and congratulations from their principal will be incorporated in the program as students pick up diplomas,” said Anson County Schools in a Facebook post.

“I just want to encourage my seniors to keep pushing forward,” said Stinson, “to stay positive and know that we’ll be back to normal shortly and start getting back to business.”
