HAMLET — Lilesville resident received the 2021 Academic Excellence Award from Richmond Community College.

Ayesha Adams, a first-generation college student, is pursuing an associate degree nursing student and will graduate from the program at the end of the semester.

Each of the 58 community colleges in North Carolina can nominate an associate degree program student who is currently enrolled, completed at least 12 semester hours and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Richmond Community College nominated Adams for her outstanding academic achievements, hard work and determination. The college announced on April 15 that Adams has received the award. She will receive a plaque and medallion in honor of her accomplishments.

“Ayesha is an individual who strives to do better no matter the circumstances,” Kameshia Harrison, nursing instructor, said in a press release. “She does not grumble or complain, but instead she approaches every situation with a smile on her face.”

She plans on pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Fayetteville State University.
