WADESBORO — The Town of Wadesboro and the Wadesboro Police Department are reminding residents to get your golf cart vehicle registered in order to avoid citations.
All golf carts drivers are required to complete a golf cart registration application and turn in the application to a representative of the town at the police department before driving on public roads. Drivers must have a valid registration issued for the golf cart and its operation by the Town of Wadesboro.
Each owner must have proof of ownership, liability insurance and a completed waiver of liability. The liability waiver releases the Town of Wadesboro from accountability that may arise as a result from golf cart operation inside town limits. All of these documents must be in the golf cart at all times while operating on public roads.
Any golf cart driver has to be at least 16 years of age and he or she must present a valid driver’s license while operating the golf cart on public roads.
Each golf cart is required to have a registration sticker, valid for no more than one year, visible on the golf cart. Any lost or stolen permits are the responsibility of the owner. Before operating the golf cart on public roads, the permit has to be replaced.
According to the Town of Wadesboro Golf Cart Ordinance, golf carts are not to be used on public roads with a speed limit greater than 35 miles per hour. No golf carts can drive on the portion of U.S. 74 where the speed limit is 35 miles per hour.
There will be no operating a golf cart while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as well as no open containers while driving the vehicle on public roads.
The Town of Wadesboro may revoke any permit and registration of a golf cart if the owner fails to follow the ordinance, violate the North Carolina General Statutes and motor vehicle laws.
Enforcement police officers and designated agents of Wadesboro have the ability to cite violators. If you are fined for a violation of the Golf Cart Ordinance, you must pay the fine to the Town Clerk within the time period printed on your citation.
If violations continue to occur, you may have your registration revoked permanently.
