The Anson County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for its 2016 Citizens Academy.

Those 18 and older are encouraged to apply. Applications are available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Anson County Sheriff’s Office. All applications must be completed and returned to the sheriff’s office on or before March 31.

The first Citizens Academy meeting will be 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in Courtroom No. 2 of the Anson County Sheriff’s Office. Classes will be held every Thursday for six weeks.

Citizens will have the opportunity to have a “behind-the-scenes” view of law enforcement and its day-to-day operations. This academy will introduce citizens to the many areas of law enforcement, which include the history of the office of the sheriff, the Anson County 911 Center, Anson County Detention Center, district judicial offices, N.C. Highway Patrol, N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies and topics.

Organizers said the classes will be “informative, insightful and beneficial.” The Citizens Academy class is limited to 25 students.
