Producer Maurice Moore to appear at ‘meet and greet’ Color Purple party

Got purple? Then dare to put on your best and most purple outfit and join other locals who starred in the “The Color Purple” at The Color Purple Party on Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

The party is being hosted by the HOLLA! Center in Morven, and will feature special guest, film producer Maurice Moore.

Moore, a Wadesboro native, started his career as a child actor in Steven Spielberg’s classic drama, “The Color Purple.” He starred as one of the children of Mister, played by acclaimed actor Danny Glover.

Being part of a historic film and working with such giants in the business is what gave Moore the motivation to pursue a career in the film industry.

After graduating with a degree in theater, Moore went on to make a name for himself in almost every facet of filmmaking and television. He’s a writer, director, producer, actor and reality show creator, who has worked with a number of artists who have been instrumental in his success and growth.

Another highlight of the event will be the star look-a-like contest. Since Sophia (Oprah Winfrey), Mister (Danny Glover) or Celie (Whoopi Goldberg) will not be making any special appearances at the party, the public is invited to join the competition to look like them.

This event is free to the public. The Purple Punch will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Maurice Moore will make several other appearances during his visit to Anson County, including a 9 a.m. workshop for youth on acting and the film industry on Friday at the HOLLA! Center.
