Officers awarded for changing tire

Two Wadesboro Police officers were honored at Monday’s Town Council meeting for helping a stranded motorist — and her horses — earlier this month.

Officers Carmen Jenkins and Danya Chance were presented with the Caught Ya! award, nominated by Chief Thedis Spencer, after changing the tire on a horse trailer July 1.

Alecia Geddings was driving through town on her way to Southport, pulling a trailer with four horses, when she noticed she was having problems. She pulled into the Advance Auto Parts parking lot and discovered she had a flat tire.

“In 95 degree weather, she was stranded and all alone,” Spencer said.

Jenkins and Chance were on patrol at the time and stopped to help change the tire.

A thankful Geddings posted about the encounter on Facebook.

“My cup (runneth) over for the help I received from the Wadesboro Police Department today,” she said. “In a world so divided, these officers were super happy to jump in and help the horses and me.”

Geddings jokingly concluded that the two “sweet, pretty female officers” were single, adding a wink emoji. “Thank you officers, y’all rock.”

After the Facebook post, Spencer said he received several calls from Wadesboro residents.

“I’m very proud of them,” he said.

The Wadesboro Town Council established the Caught Ya! award program to recognize town employees who display exceptional customer service, show integrity during a stressful and difficult time, or otherwise going the extra mile.
