The Anson County Arts Council recognized Marshall Ray in their Spotlight portion of their monthly newsletter.
Ray was born, raised and has lived in Wadesboro all 60 years of his life, in the neighborhood right behind the Ansonia Theatre.
According to the newsletter, as a child, he would walk to the Ansonia and stay all day watching John Wayne and Elvis Presley movies.
Ray has been doing carpentry, cabinet and furniture building for 30 years. He has been teaching carpentry at Anson High School for 23 years (and thinks it’s the greatest job on the planet). He also coached Little League and high school baseball for 19 years.
Ray started volunteering at the theater because his mother, Foye Ray, would never let him say no. He has worked on the set of every play so far. He says he really loves the Arts Council, the Ansonia Theatre and all the people associated with it.
