Anson County Arts Council and the Ansonia Theatre accomplish much with the help of volunteers, and are shining a spotlight on Phyllis Dunlap.

“More often than not these volunteers work behind the scenes with little recognition but are vital to our success,” a news release says. “We’d like to give a shout out to one of our most valuable volunteers, Phyllis Dunlap.”

Dunlap has served as an Arts Council board member and as board president, and continues to play an important role in making things happen.

Dunlap is responsible for securing volunteers to help at the community plays. These volunteers serve as greeters, help with the box office, and serve wine during intermissions. Dunlap brings talent to the Bach’s Lunchers each summer.

She is retired from Anson County Public Schools where she taught high school math as well as math classes for South Piedmont Community College. As a retiree, Dunlap wears many hats, just one of which is to the Red Hat Club.

She also makes time for book club and the Ansonville Historical Society. She is very active at Red Hill Baptist Church, where she plays the piano and works with the handbell choir. An accomplished pianist herself, Dunlap teaches piano to many young people in the community.

She is a master gardener and active in the Wadesboro Garden Club, and uses her gardening talent helping with the pots on South Rutherford Street in front of the Arts Council and the Ansonia.
