Gina Clarke has been spotlighted by the Ansonia Theatre in February.
According to a news release, Clarke is an actress, choreographer and assistant director in “Smoke on the Mountain.”
Clarke’s first production at the Ansonia was as Sally in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in 2012. The following year she was cast as Jessie Mae Watts in the critically acclaimed “A Trip to Bountiful,” written by director Tommy Wooten. That show went on to be nominated for five Metrolina Theatre Awards in Charlotte, including a nomination for Clarke as best supporting actress.
“Clarke and Wooten formed a bond that has lasted to this day,” the release said. “With the exception of two shows, she has played a vital part of every single production here.”
Clarke helped launch the Summer Youth Program, now in its sixth year. She is currently in rehearsals for “All Shook Up,” where she will play the lead role of Natalie.
Clarke also recently directed “On Golden Pond” with the Uwharrie Players, and this summer she will be directing for them once again.
Clarke is wife to Jason Clarke and mother to Isaac, Caden and Ava, who have essentially grown up in the theater. The release added that she is a homeschool mom, and is proud to be passing her love for theater to her three children.
“We love you, Gina,” it added. “Thank you for all you do. The spotlight is on you.”
