Detectives from the Anson County Sheriff’s Office along with the State Bureau of Investigation on April 30 arrested and charged Maurice Marshall, 49, of Morven with the April 30 murder of Montiell Antavious Rivers.
Marshall was charged with first-degree murder, and placed in the Anson County jail. No bail was set. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, a car believed to be driven by Rivers was found abandoned on Ratliff Gin Road in Morven on Feb. 4.
While investigating the abandoned vehicle, detectives found evidence of foul play, believed that Rivers was in danger and in need of medical assistance.
Rivers’ body was found on the side of Peru Road in Morven a day later, and the Sheriff’s Office and the SBI began a homicide investigation.
