I don’t believe in coincidences or luck anymore. What I do believe in is my God, who is bigger than any coincidence or luck that you’ll ever imagine.

Tina and I were with friends one day when we decided to pull onto this gravel road at a boat ramp, for no reason. We got out of our car and a boat with two people in it was drifting ashore after the motor had stalled. In addition, the trolling motor had stopped just as we pulled up while they were still 8 or 9 miles from their ramp. We gave them a ride to their truck, and they drove back to get their boat.

My friend, who is also a pastor, said to me, “I wondered what Divine Guidance you had to pull onto that gravel road, but now I understand. Those folks needed help.”

I thought about that and it makes sense to me now. Sometimes I think that God is so busy, He doesn’t have time to work with small things like this, but we serve a God who is bigger than our imaginations. When we try to understand what He is capable of, or we try to limit His capabilities to only “major” life circumstances, we limit our blessings.

When I met my best friend at a horse stable over twenty years ago, I believe that God introduced us because we were going to need each other over our lifetimes. That’s not a coincidence, it’s a blessing.

When I saw a sweet little girl in my fifth-grade class, and instantly fell in love with her, that was not luck. It was more than luck; it was God handing someone to me who I was going to need to get through my life, and she’s still right by my side.

My son, my grandkids, my family, my friends, my church … luck? I don’t think so!
