Anson Record

How do I say ‘Thank You’?

During a time when our county is plagued with chaos and a negative public image, I want to publicly thank the Anson County Law Enforcement Agency, Lilesville Law Enforcement, Sheriff Landric Reid, Chief Bobby Gallimore, my sons Officer Jenks, Officer Tony Robinson and our daughter Denise Cannon for not just replying to a call promptly, but also taking the time and having a courteous attitude during the situation. I ask every reader to please take the time to read this.

A citizen of Anson County, while up very late doing some paperwork for someone, heard her doorbell ring. Then there was a loud knocking on the door. Even though she has been counseled by her family numerous times about opening her door or stopping for others and letting her window down, she proceeded to the door and opened it to find a man directly in her view out of breath. He stated he had just been released from jail, made it to Rockingham and walked to her home on Highway 74. He had something in his hand.

Wanting to help the gentleman, she dressed to take him to Wadesboro. As she went back to the door (which she left cracked while she dressed) the Spirit of God told her not to go. She immediately tipped to the door closed and locked it, went to the back of her home and called for help.

By now you may wonder how I know so many details about the situation. No, it was not one of my seniors I care for, no it was not a family member that I love dearly, IT WAS ME!!!

Normally nothing shakes me. I know I inherited that from my parents and grandmother, Sara Wall. This situation did.

When the officers arrived, I opened the door and explained to them and the man, that he never threatened me, but that I was nervous about leaving my home that late. The gentleman stated I had helped him before and that when he saw the sign on the front of that truck in the yard, “Saving Lives” he knew that was me and he could get help. Before leaving with the officers, he showed me his empty medicine bottles. I told him to take them to his pharmacy, have them call me and I will pay for the prescriptions.

As I previously stated, my sincere “THANK YOU” goes out to the Law Enforcement agents of Anson County, but I penned this letter as a caution to other citizens, this could have turned out as a tragedy. Will this hinder me from helping others? OH NO. I will just be more cautious.
