After years of hiatus, the Anson County Parks and Recreation Department has brought back its men’s industrial league basketball competition.

“Our men’s industrial league is not new, but it was strong for over 20 years,” said Jeff Waisner, the recreation director. “Because of the closing of textile plants the opportunity for teams diminished. We are pleased that our league has found a new beginning and hope that more teams will register next year.”

The league includes Walmart Distibution Center, Cobb, Anson County Schools and Triangle Brick. They’ve reached the third week of games.

Walmart is leading with a record of 4-0, Cobb is 2-2 and ACS and Triangle Brick are 1-3.

The top scorer for week two is Ryan Lisenby (Cobb) who averaged 19.8 points per game. Corey McManus (Walmart) averaged 13 points; Chris McRae (Triangle Brick) averaged 10.5; Wesley Cole (ACS) averaged 9 and Jolan Kendall (Triangle Brick) averaged 8.3.

Walmart’s 30-27 win over Triangle Brick was given the second week’s Game of the Week award. It was deemed a classic battle of the undefeated team versus the winless team.

“From the tip-off it was obvious that Triangle Brick came to play,” said Allen Jackson of the recreation department. “A big game by McRae made the game interesting, but Walmart DC had an answer for everything Triangle Brick threw their way.”

McRae finished with 10 points.

It was a tie game until the buzzer, when Walmart’s McManus stepped into a deep 3-pointer to win the game.

Cobb defeated ACS in the second game, with Lisenby scoring 26 points.

Walmart’s defeated ACS 57-48 on Thursday. McManus scored 22.

Triangle Brick defeated Cobb 51-28, with McRae scoring 21 and Lisenby 10.

Player of the Week was McManus, averaging 14.5 points per game.

“McManus had two huge games this week to help push Walmart DC to a 4-0, first place record,” Jackson said. “After playing a tough defense brought on by Triangle Brick, McManus still found a way to hit a game-winning 3 at the buzzer; and kept his streak going when he put up a season high 22 points on Anson Schools.”

Week one’s top five scorers were Lisenby (Cobb) with 21.5; McManus (Walmart) with 12; Jaquan Bullock (Walmart) with 10.5; Wesley Cole (ACS) with 10; and Khalil Fall (Walmart) with 8.0 points per game.

The Game of the Week was awarded in Cobb’s 38-34 win over Triangle Brick. In other games, ACS beat Triangle Brick 33-25 and Walmart defeated Cobb 45-37.

Of the Cobb victory over Triangle Brick, Jackson said, “This was an even matchup between two tough teams. Cobb jumped out to an early lead going into halftime before two big shots by Shaft Simon cut the lead down to two going into the break. A 20-point game by Lisenby was exactly what the doctor ordered, as it gave Cobb what they needed to keep the lead after two big second-half runs by Triangle Brick.”

Cobb’s Lisenby was named Player of the Week, averaging 21.5 points per game.

“Lisenby had two great performances this week scoring 23 points verses the Walmart DC defense, and following it up with a 20 point showing verses Triangle Brick, leading his team to their first victory of the year,” Jackson said.
