The Lady Bearcats of Anson opened the week with its fourth straight loss of the early season, but then righted the ship and won its next two varsity tilts last week.
Piedmont handed Anson a 55-27 setback on Tuesday to push the Lady Bearcats to 0-4 in the non-conference part of the schedule. Then things changed.
On Wednesday, Anson used a three-quarters run to open a 41-15 advantage over Chesterfield, South Carolina, on the road and earned its first win of the season, 52-26.
The Lady Bearcats led after one quarter, 12-3, and took a 27-8 lead into intermission.
On Friday, Anson notched its second straight win with a 55-39 verdict over visiting Monroe, thanks to a stiff second half.
The Lady Bearcats took a 13-10 lead after the first frame and carried a 25-19 edge into the locker room.
Anson outscored Monroe by a 16-7 margin in the third quarter, then had a 14-13 advantage in the final frame to seal the 16-point win.
Dynastee Parker scored 17 points with nine free throws and five rebounds to lead the Lady Bearcats, while Kaycee Shipman scored 13 points with a three-pointer and grabbed five rebounds. Adriana Melton grabbed seven rebounds, had four steals and two blocked shots for Anson.
Anson improved to 2-4 and had three games on tap this week — at Cox Mill in Concord on Tuesday; home versus Chesterfield on Wednesday; and at Carmel Christian in Matthews on Friday.

Bearcats now on a
3-game win streak

Anson’s boys varsity started the season 0-3, but a two-point win over Piedmont on the road Tuesday was the catalyst for what is now a three-game winning streak.
The Bearcats managed to outlast Piedmont for a 58-56 win before traveling to Chesterfield, South Carolina, and earning a convincing, 42-point win, 76-34, on Wednesday.
Anson then hosted Monroe on Friday and put together its third straight winner in a tight one, 59-53.
The Bearcats, now 3-3, will play three times this week — Tuesday at Cox Mill in Concord; Wednesday at home versus Chesterfield; and Friday at Carmel Christian in Matthews.
