Anson hoops trio makes all-conference team

WADESBORO — Three Anson High boys basketball players were recently named to the All-Rocky River Conference Team, Laynce Shuler, Masson Sanderson and Garrett Maner.

Shuler was one of the best players in the RRC and finished third in the player of the year voting.

According to statistics kept on, the junior point guard finished first in the country with 11 assists per game. He also paced the Bearcats with over 16 points per contest. Shuler had his best game this season in a 91-79 win over Montgomery Central, tying a career-high with 29 points and dishing out a career-best 18 assists.

Sanderson provided a versatile weapon for the Bearcats’ lineup this year, leading the team in steals per game and averaging just under 10 points. Sanderson had a career-high 23 points, on 5-of-7 shooting from deep, to help the team beat West Stanly near the end of the season.

Maner was the group’s best outside threat, converting a team-best 56 3-pointers on a blistering 53% clip. In the blowout victory at Montgomery Central, Maner went a career-best 7 for 8 from downtown on his way to a career-high 27 points.

Bearcats teammates Sam Ingram and Shammond Ingram received honorable mention votes.

Sunday, Anson (10-13) was selected to its first state playoffs tournament since 2015, pegged as the No. 15 seed in the 2A East bracket.
