Anson JV Bearcats conquer Cuthbertson

The JV Bearcats won a home game against Cuthbertson by a score of 16-6 on Thursday night.

By halftime, the Cavaliers were ahead 6-0, but the Bearcats turned that around in the third quarter. With 2:17 left in the quarter, Valer Presslar (#14) made a touchdown that was followed by a two successful two-point conversion scored by Jalen Gaddy (#55).

Presslar and Gaddy followed that success with another touchdown and two-point conversion 29 seconds later, putting the score at 16-6 in Anson’s favor.

Anson held on the the lead throughout the game, though the Cavaliers prevented another touchdown.

Marshall Taylor, head coach of Anson’s JV team, was pleased with his team’s series of successful plays. “The guys made some good plays, and that was a big momentum swing, and that really gave our guys life,” he said. “At that point, we took advantage of it and went out and we just kept making more plays off of it, and that turned out to be a big impact to the result of the game.”

The win takes the JV team to a 3-4 season.

Next week

Next Thursday, the team will face Marvin Ridge at at 6:30 p.m. at Anson High School.

Taylor said that he and his team will begin preparing for that game on Sunday to develop a more detailed strategy, but immediately after the game against Cuthbertson, he couldn’t think of anything they will focus on in particular. “It’s just like any other game,” he said. “We’re just optimistic about our guys coming out here and making plays, and we’re just coming to practice and training for whatever our opponent’s going to throw at us.”
