WADESBORO — Today the Anson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death of 35-year old Darryl Leon Richardson Sr.

According to information released by law enforcement, Sgt. Brandon Lear made the unfortunate discovery in a wooded area near Richardson’s home on September 12. Detective Brian Tice says that no confirmation was released publicly as “We just received information from the Medical Examiner’s Office today that the identity was confirmed to be the missing person.”

“At this time we do not have any comment related to the cause of death.” He added as the Sheriff’s Office “Just confirmed the identity today… no more information is to be released at this time,” Tice said.

Detective Tice requests that as this is an ongoing investigation, anyone with information is urged to call the Anson County Sheriff’s Office at 704-694-4188.

As previsouly reported by the Anson Record, Richardson’s mother said he had not been seen or heard from by friends or family members since September 6. His mother, Jackie Richardson, reports she has not had contact with her son since September 4. Aware of the September 6 altercation, she reported that someone had approached his residence and fired shots, prompting Richardson to chase the armed individual into a wooded area near his home. Following the incident, the missing man’s Chevy Tahoe remained parked in the side yard. Richardson became alarmed when she did not hear from her son and after finding his vehicle still in the side yard, now with a busted in driver’s side window and his wallet lying on the driver’s seat of his vehicle.

Arriving to conduct the welfare check, Deputies Cox, Alexson and Marsh observed the damage to Richardson’s vehicle. Attempts to make contact with someone inside the residence went unanswered. However, deputies were able to reach the property owner, Shaquanna Ratliff, via her video doorbell. Ratliff later arrived at the scene and claimed to be unaware of the damage to the Tahoe, though she did confirm the vehicle belongs to the missing man. She said he left the vehicle there after a disturbance on Sep. 6 and had not returned since. Ratliff mentioned attempting to contact him several times with his phone going to voicemail every time. Richardson’s mother also reported calling her son several times since September 4. His phone continuously going to voicemail, which she stated was uncharacteristic of her son.

Still at the scene, deputies ran the vehicle registration for the missing man’s Chevy Tahoe, which came back as a Pontiac registered to a Clifton Richardson, proving the NC registration to be fictitious.

Investigating the September 6 incident that occurred in the Pineview Circle trailer park, deputies learned a dispute was called into dispatch at approximately 10:28 p.m. That night, Deputy Cox reported to the scene, noting in his report that he observed Shaquanna Ratliff leaving the residence in her vehicle when he arrived. Stopping, she informed Deputy Cox that individuals had been on the property earlier causing a disturbance but as they had now left, she stated that law enforcement was no longer needed. Cox added he did not notice Ratliff’s Chevy Tahoe present at the scene on Sep. 6. Law enforcement never received a call of shots being fired in the trailer park that evening.
