God’s love found behind prison walls

POLKTON — A team of 55 Kairos Prison Ministries affiliated representatives are coming from all across North Carolina to the Anson Correctional Facility this October 10-13 as part of their push to share the good news of the gospel of Christ with imprisoned women all across the state.

Participants in Kairos Weekend remember their Polkton trip last September as an explosion of success. Operating in prisons in 37 states and 9 countries, Kairos Prison Ministries, is a 501© non-for-profit organization who got its start in the sunny state of Florida. In Greek, Kairos means ‘In God’s Special Time’ or ‘In the Fullness of Time,” so named to reflect the opportunity given to inmates to reflect on their life choices and direction for the rest of their life.

A Kairos Weekend strives to take participants on a structured journey reflecting the love and forgiveness taught by Jesus Christ through testimonials, discussions, chapel mediation, and by putting a group in place to meet weekly in Kairos’ stead to hold inmates accountable while fostering feelings of support and community prayer.

Kairos’ goal is to form Christian communities behind prison walls that transforms lives, decreases prison violence, and reduces recidivism. Participants in past programs have shared their experiences as; “NOW I have a family,” “I feel accepted and loved,” and “I know I am not alone.”

“I could feel it from the gatehouse to the interior-God was there, the enemy had been put on notice! I saw light, hope, and new life in faces,” stated Suzy Martin, a Kairos representative, who had the privilege of visiting Anson Correctional Facility the day following the camp weekend.

Kairos Weekend ends on Sunday with an hour long closing event where prisoners will share their experiences from the weekend. Kairos Prison Ministries is grateful to be hosted by First Baptist Church of Wadesboro this year.
