The youth of Anson County will have an opportunity this fall to suit up and play travel football — for free.

A first-year youth program, Anson Wolfpack is offering free tackle football for local kids ages 7 through 12. Anson Wolfpack participated in spring Football and leaders are excited about their fall season.

“We’re excited to remove the No. 1 obstacle stopping many of our youth from playing football, which is cost,” Johnta Harrison, president of the Anson Wolfpack organization said. “Our goal is to change the normality of our local youth by keeping them busy in sports and being mentored by local leaders.”

The Anson Wolfpack is a non-profit organization which plays North Carolina AAU football in the Southern Football Conference based out of Charlotte.

The team has three age groups: 8 and under; 10 and under; and 12 and under. Each age group will compete against teams in and around the Charlotte area from September through November. Practice days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m.

“Our mission is to make our players better students, better citizens and better athletes, all while showcasing the talents of the youth of Anson County,” Harrison said. “In addition, on the football field our goal is winning the state championship, then competing in Florida for a national championship.”

The deadline to register is Sept. 30. All interested Parents can contact Harrison at 704-465-5155.
