Dr. Alvin Summers has been named pastor of the East Campus of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail in Marshville.

Summers has been in ministry for 26 years. He has served on staff of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail for the past four years in multiple capacities, most recently as associate minister of music.

Prior to that, he served as pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Martin, Tennessee, for 17 years. He received his doctorate from Memphis Theological Seminary and his bachelor’s from Henderson State University.

Summers has vast experience in community life, having served in a leadership capacity in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee. He also served as the campus liaison for the University of Tennessee at Martin, as well as an adjunct professor and as chaplain of the university’s basketball team. He is a published author and composer.

Summers has been married for 25 years to his wife Colleen; they have two daughters, Cice and Autumn.

“We are excited to have someone of Dr. Summers’ background and ability become our East Campus Pastor,” said Mike Whitson in a news release. He’s senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail. “He has a tremendous passion for church growth and for leading people to Christ. I look forward to the future of our East Campus under his capable leadership.”

Summers is beginning his transition from current responsibilities, and will assume the pastorate at the East Campus on Jan. 6.
