WADESBORO — Anson County Cooperative Extension has named the Stinson family the 2020 Farm Family of the Year.
Chris and Melody Stinson own and run Homestead & Hustle with the help of their three kids.
“Our family has been around farming our entire lives,” Chris said in the Extension’s video. “Agriculture as something passionate of ourselves.”
The Stinson’s waited until their daughter, Gracie, turned 10 to really propel their farm and business. She’s been working and helping on the farm for nearly six years now.
Together the family built barns and fences for the farm. The kids are very involved and express their ideas. Both Chris and Melody help them grow their ideas into realities.
From what started as investing in freezers for Gracie to now selling by the slice, turned into her becoming a member of the North Carolina Natural Hog Growers Association where she is meeting with farmers across the state.
“I am the owner and operator of Hog Wild Farms,” Gracie said. “It is an all natural, AWA certified pork farm.”
Their son Jackson, 12, runs Rising Sun Farms and the youngest, Walker, works on his farm called Mills Bottom Coops.
