Uptown Wadesboro, Inc. will present Summer Jam on Saturday, June 29, with fireworks and music.

Summer Jam will be at the corner of Wade and Washington streets, in the Plank Road Parking Lot. Music will start at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

“The goal for Summer Jam is to provide a family friendly event where they can enjoy music and fireworks in Uptown Wadesboro,” said Julian Swittenburg, director.” We had to start early in the year to get the band and fireworks booked for the event.”

He added that the UWI board spent the last two months scheduling groups and vendors to participate.

There will be a corn hole toss, glow sticks, sidewalk chalk and a photo booth. Representatives from South Piedmont Community College, North Carolina Works and the Partnership for Children will also be in attendance. There will be popcorn, snow balls, lemonade and smoothies, as well.

“We hope the event will bring people to the Uptown area to enjoy an evening of dance music, activities and fireworks close to home,” Swittenburg said.

Summer Jam has been a UWI event since 2008, where music events were held throughout the summer months with fireworks in July. The events have been reduced to only having music and fireworks around July 4, to reduce the burden on budget and volunteers.

“UWI is truly thankful for the ongoing sponsor support from members of the community for Summer Jam and our other events,” he said. “The continued financial contributions from them allow us to host these events to draw people to Uptown to experience our local charm.”

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, July 6. Look for updates on UWI’s Facebook page, or call 704-694-4181 for information.
