ACSO deputies nab fugitive Scotty Roy Hills

ANSON COUNTY — The Anson County Sheriff’s Office announced deputies have captured armed and dangerous fugitive, Scotty Roy Hills, after finding him hiding under a building located on the south side of Wadesboro Tuesday morning.

ANSON COUNTY — With fall quickly approaching many families will be planning camping trips. First before leaving home make sure your vehicle is ready for the trip. Check your tire’s tread wear, air pressure and make sure your brakes are in good working order before hitting the road. While on your trip make sure you take frequent breaks to avoid fatigue. Plan out a safe route before leaving. It’s a good idea to let someone know what roads you will be traveling on. Never drink and drive, wear your seat belt and obey all traffic laws.

Kid’s Expo is another sucess!

ANSON COUNTY — The county’s best and brightest were on full display at Saturday’s Chamber of Commerce sponsored annual Kids Expo for young entrepreneurs. The event was again held at 1st Baptist Church of Wadesboro. In addition to the Chamber, SPCC co-sponsored the event.

Animal control continues to dog commissioners

ANSON COUNTY — Animal services and control have been a focus of Anson County commissioners throughout the summer. Members of the newly appointed advisory committee to suggest solutions: Brian Ellerby, Sheriff Scott Howell, and Christine Morton, introduced two options for the board’s consideration last Tuesday. Commissioners ultimately voted to open animal service operations to outside contract bids.

Commissioners vote to approve license plate agency renewal

ANSON COUNTY — County Manager Leonard Sossoman introduced renewing the county’s contract with the Department of Motor Vehicles during his manager’s report Tuesday, sharing a letter he received from the state regarding the county’s lease and its approaching deadline for renewal. Following discussion, the board decided to renew the license plate agency contract.

Why isn’t Sept. the 7th month?

PICKENS COUNTY — It just doesn’t make any sense. A septangle is a figure with seven sides. A septave is a seven-tone musical scale. A septuagenarian is a person who is between 70 and 79 years old — so why in the world is September the ninth month?
