ANSON — Ansonians gathered Thursday, May 1 to celebrate and honor the nation’s National Day of Prayer at the steps of the Wadesboro courthouse.

Forget the flowers, May is all about Lupus awareness

May kicks off Lupus awareness month during which sufferers of the illness, and their supporters, wear purple or butterflies to bring awareness to the autoimmune disease. Both, along with the wolf, are symbols of the condition. The name Lupus is derived from the Latin word for wolf because the Malar rash, a facial rash commonly associated with the condition, closely resembles a wolf’s bite.

WADESBORO — The crack of the bat filled the air Saturday April 26 at Anson Middle School as the Lady A’s softball team took to the field in their triumphant and highly anticipated return to the county.

Anson’s own “Johnny Appleseed” returns

POLKTON — Local man Chase Burr, 31, known affectionately around the area as Anson County’s own “Johnny Appleseed,” allegedly had a very busy 24 hours; beginning with a home being broken into on Rosa Lane April 18, and ending with threats and vandalism to homes on East Freemont Street April 19.

Fomer handler for K-9 Blitz speaks out

WADESBORO — Addressing her previous superiors and Wadesboro’s town leaders, former Wadesboro Police Department Officer Kayla Wright spoke her truth in a voice that at times shook with the emotion of the moment — reliving the night K-9 Blitz was shot and killed by one of his own in the line of duty for town council members and residents of Wadesboro alike.
