Anson High School will try to close the football regular season on a winning note Friday night when the Bearcats travel to Concord to face Robinson High School.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. This nonconference game was rescheduled from September, when Hurricane Florence hit North Carolina.
The Bearcats fell last week to Forest Hills 47-22, their third consecutive defeat in the Rocky River Conference. Anson finished 1-3 in league play, in fourth place, and stands 4-6 overall.
A win Friday would be the most in a season under fourth-year head coach Ralph Jackson. The Bearcats won four and went to the playoffs each of the last two seasons. Prior to Jackson’s arrival, the Bearcats had three wins or fewer and missed the playoffs in four of the previous five seasons.
Mount Pleasant won the league with a 4-0 record and is 6-5 overall. West Stanly finished second at 3-1, and is 6-4 overall; Forest Hills was third at 2-2, 3-8 overall; and East Montgomery was fifth at 0-4, and is 3-7 overall.
The state playoffs bracket will be released this weekend.
Forest Hills’ Kendrick McLaurin ran 28 times for 293 yards for the Yellow Jackets, scoring three touchdowns. Jai Rone threw for 120 yards and two scores.
