POLKTON — Preserve Mecklenburg is inviting the public to send ideas on saving the Leonidas Lafayette Polk House.
The non-profit is still under contract to buy the house, which was the birthplace of L.L. Polk. If the purchase goes through, Preserve Mecklenburg wants to closely follow what the public would like to see the house turn into.
Ideas could be a museum, a farm-to-table restaurant, farmers market or back to a private residence.
“PMI believes that historic sites have the best chance to survive if they are market-wise,” Dan Morrill, administrative Consultant for PMI, said. “We need to hear from the people of Anson County. What do they believe will best assure the long-term preservation of the Polk House?”
The hope is to pay tribute to L.L. Polk for his love and significant contributions to agriculture. PMI wants to not only preserve the house, but make it an enrichment to the entire community.
