WADESBORO — Anson will soon be running on Dunkin’ this fall as part of a forthcoming retail center announced by the Anson Economic Development Partnership.

Demolition began the week of July 12 at the site of the old PNC Bank in Wadesboro. The new retail center is expected to open in October or November.

Along with a Dunkin Donuts, there will be a Baskin-Robbins, mobile phone store and additional retail space.

Facebook users flooded AnsonEDP’s Facebook post about the new businesses coming. Many were excited to see new businesses coming into town bringing job opportunities, while others were concerned if there would be enough space and what would happen to the current PNC ATM located in the vicinity.

The PNC ATM is still expected to be part of the new design, according to a comment from AnsonEDP.

“Our understanding is that the ATM will be part of the new development, but we don’t have any details as to whether it will be freestanding or a drive-through or inside one of the shops,” the comment said.

The latest designs John Marek, executive director of AnsonEDP, saw will incorporate the Dunkin Donuts and Baskin-Robbins into one space. There will be a drive-thru window and seating for about 20.

The mobile phone store will be in a separate part of the building. There will be one other space available about 300 square feet. Marek believes the space has not yet been leased.

Marek had the retail space listed as bringing in about 10 jobs and $1.5 million in capital investment.
