ANSONVILLE — Soon there will be a new Family Dollar on US 52 North between Sunoco and Ansonville Elementary.

It is expected to bring eight to ten full-time and part-time jobs to Anson County and boost tax revenue. Family Dollar stores typically take three to four months from groundbreaking to opening, meaning the Ansonville location will likely open sometime in May.

County Commissioner J.D. Bricken, who represents Ansonville, spearheaded the development.

“I asked the residents what they wanted and they told me a Dollar Tree or Family Dollar,” he told the Anson Economic Development Partnership (AnsonEDP). “It turned out that they do not build free-standing Dollar Trees, but were happy to talk to us about a Family Dollar.”

Bricken worked to assemble the necessary property and consulted with state and county agencies, including AnsonEDP, on the property’s development potential.

“They have started site work, but haven’t gotten much beyond clearing a space for the structural steel,” AnsonEDP executive director John Marek said. “Everyone I have spoken to in Ansonville is happy and excited about the store.”
