A Morven man was arrested on Feb. 21 after he allegedly assaulted a woman and a three-month-old baby.

Eric Alexander Pickett, 23, is accused of “holding the baby in the air by the arm while threatening to break the child’s arm,” according to an arrest warrant, which added that the alleged assault caused pain in the infant’s left arm.

Sheriff’s deputies say Pickett attacked a woman and choked her.

Pickett is accused of harassing and threatening the woman, writing to her, “I’m know I’m going to jail, but I’m going to get right back out, and this time I’m going to kill y’all motherf———” and calling the woman multiple times to threaten her, according to the warrants.

He also allegedly broke into a home in Morven and stole $120 from the same woman.

The alleged incidents occurred over a three-day period from Feb. 19-21, and Anson County deputies arrested him on Feb. 21. A domestic violence incident report filed by the woman noted that the defendant and victim had previously been in a relationship.

Pickett was charged with assault on a child under 12, child abuse, assault on a female, communicating threats, cyberstalking and making a harassing phone call, all misdemeanors. He was also charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering, both felonies.

He is being held in the Anson County Jail under a $20,000 bond for the felony charges, but no bond was set for the other charges. He was ordered to not contact the victims and any witnesses.

Pickett is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.

Records show that he has had no prior convictions in North Carolina and no other pending charges.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
