MORVEN — Four members of the Morven chapter of Las Amigas attended the National Executive Board Meeting with family members at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Charlotte April 15-16.

Chapter Recording Secretary Pat McCoy, President Joletha Little, National Queen and chapter Financial Secretary Elizabeth Kersey and board Treasurer Johnie Pettiford all attended.

This year’s theme was “Energize, Commit and Renew,” encouraging participants to become energized to renew their journey to uplift those they serve. A reception was hosted for the members of Las Amigas, who arrived that Friday evening and stayed in the presidential suite. A greeting and welcome was given to those that attended by the 19th national president, DeniAntionnette Mazingo, Esq.

The national executive board meeting was officially opened on Saturday, April 16 by Mazingo after the opening session, which included a performance by the students of Phillip O. Berry Military Color Guard of Charlotte. The agenda outline was carried out by Chaplain Faye Stanley with the Lord’s Prayer done in unison. Followed by invocation, roll call was done by national recording secretary Mamie Watkins. The adoption of agenda and parliamentary procedure was done by Parliamentarian Johnson. Voting cards were distributed to board members.

Mazingo informed everyone that the executive board meeting was very important and business at hand was done. She also stated that the meeting was a jumpstart for the 60th anniversary, which will be held during the 2017 Conclave in Richmond, Virginia. Las Amigas, Inc. was founded by the late Dora R. Mason and Mary Q. Moore on Feb. 5, 1957. Las Amigas paraphernalia was on hand to be purchased.

Kersey gave a brief overall view of her initiative report that included what she has done since 2015. She encouraged everyone to continue to “get well, stay well and live well,” encouraging diabetes awareness. Kersey stated that working together, everyone can make a difference in the lives of others in their communities.

Las Amigas members and their family members were treated with a buffet luncheon planned by Mazingo and prepared by the staff of the Embassy Suite. Closing out the executive board meeting on Saturday evening, a cookout was held at the Revolutionary Park in Charlotte. Mazingo thanked everyone for attending the executive board meeting and wished everyone a safe journey home.
