Wadesboro funeral home owner Harold Smith was the first to receive a special award at a funeral home meeting July 15. The Funeral Directors and Morticians Association of North Carolina, Inc. convened during the week of June 13-15, 2016 in Winston-Salem for its 89th annual convention. Smith was given the 2016 Trailblazers Award during the annual banquet. This is the first year the award has been presented. Smith, owner of Smith Funeral Home in Wadesboro, received the award based on his longevity as a licensee in the funeral service industry for more than 55 years, being a business owner for more than 50 years, and his continued service and support to his surrounding communities.
