Mayor Bill Thacker honored late employee Tim Watts with a resolution during the Wadesboro town council’s meeting on Monday, presenting Watts’ family with a plaque.

Tim E. Watts was an employee of the town for more than nine years, according to the resolution. He died on Nov. 16, according to his obituary on the website of Leavitt Funeral Home.

Thacker remembered Watts as always smiling; the thought was reflected in the resolution.

“… the town of Wadesboro will miss Tim’s smile and laughter and enjoyment of life,” the resolution reads. “Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Wadesboro town council wishes to celebrate the life of Tim, extend its heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his loved ones, especially his wife, Rhonda, and wishes to express its appreciation to Tim’s family for his service to the town of Wadesboro.”

Councilman John Ballard remembered a time a pipe had broken and Watts responded, listening to a Carolina game using his truck radio while he worked.

Hugh James, the town’s public services director, said that Watts had undergone heart surgery 12 years ago. Watts developed breathing problems this summer, had an aneurysm repaired, had been on light duty for a month and had worked the day he died. James said Watts’ death was likely caused by heart problems.

Watts had served as a utilities maintenance employee in the town’s water department.

“Tim will be remembered for being a true Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Tarheels fan,” his obituary reads. “He enjoyed spending time at the beach, playing corn hole, fire pits and especially his man cave. He, his wife, son and daughter-in-law just enjoyed a weekend at the beach and they are most grateful for the time shared and memories made.”

Tim’s wife, Rhonda, and son, Ryan, received the plaque and other family members were in the audience.
