Dozens of kids met with Santa last weekend, having pancakes and juice as they met the jolly old elf at Oliver’s Hometown Restaurant and Bar on Dec. 10.

Santa will be busy this year. As Christmas music played in the background, St. Nick listened to a long list of requests for items including baby dolls, Power Rangers, dirt bikes and pools. One child even asked for a T-rex, while another asked for a baby brother.

“One girl didn’t have a name for her baby doll, and we named it Wendy,” Santa said. “She had a name for one, but not the other, so I asked her if she likes Wendy.”

Santa was inspired by the name of one of his cousins, he said.

Children and their families had the option of plain or chocolate chip pancakes with bacon and water, coffee or orange juice. A total of 68 people attended, including 37 adults and 31 kids, according to Julian Swittenberg. Swittenberg is the director of Uptown Wadesboro, Inc. which sponsored the event.

Uptown Wadesboro will compensate Oliver’s for its cost for the breakfast, and the remainder of the money will be deposited into its general fund.

The organization uses its money to sponsor events throughout the year, including the annual SummerJam and the Uptown Wadesboro Fall Festival.

Uptown business owners interested in participating in the organization can call 704-695-1644 or email uptownwadesboro@windstream.net. Monthly board meetings are held at 4 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month.
