Authorities arrested a Wadesboro man last Sunday for an alleged hit and run after arrest warrants say he led officers on a chase.
Warrants state that at 1:28 a.m. last Sunday, Mario Oneil Simon, 26, fled from Anson County sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Moore when the deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop.
Simon then allegedly led the officer on a chase that included U.S. Highway 74, McLaurin Street, Washington Street, Shepherd Street and Bennett Street, going more than 15 mph above the speed limit.
He then ran a stop sign while going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone at the intersection of U.S. 74 and McLaurin Street, according to the warrant.
Near the intersection of Bennett Street and Shepherd Street, Simon allegedly hit a hit a 2008 Chevrolet, causing more than $1,000 in property damage, before fleeing the scene.
During the chase, Simon had a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.14 and had an open container in the passenger seat at the time of his arrest, according to the warrants. The legal limit is 0.08.
Simon was charged with a hit and run while operating a vehicle without a license and fleeing to elude arrest while driving recklessly. He was also charged with driving while impaired.
Simon is being held in the Anson County Jail under a $6,000 secured bond. He is due in court at 9:30 a.m. next Tuesday.
