The bridge over the Rocky River on N.C. 742 that separates Stanly and Union counties south of Oakboro will be closed about a month.
A news release from the Wadesboro Town Hall said state Department of Transportation crews inspected the bridge Jan. 14. A crack was discovered in the bridge’s substructure, forcing closure immediately.
This part of the highway carries about 1,700 vehicles each day.
The detour routes include Old Sandbar Road, N.C. 205, N.C. 218, Fish Road, St. Timothy Road and Benton Edwards Road.
The release said DOT’s Division 10 will work with a structures management unit to determine the scope of repairs.
