Anson County commissioners have approved a cellphone tower for Verizon, a communications company, at 105 Helms Road in Polkton.
The Board of Adjustments recommended approval of Verizon’s application with stipulated conditions. Those include attaining a 911 address, a N.C. Department of Transportation driveway permit and a copy of the lease agreement. A generator was approved in a public hearing March 7.
“These conditions that I gave you have been met,” said Larry Newton, who brought the proposal before the board.
The tower is set to be 195 feet. The Polkton address is a place where reception is considered weak.
Newton said the town will be sitting on the backside of a property, is not lighted, and will not affect the visual concept of the county.
Verizon has already paid $2,500 of the tower fee. The board agreed that the fee will increase to $5,000.
