Beth Diggs named United Way’s Campaign Chair in Anson

WADESBORO — Beth Diggs, a patient nurse navigator for Carolinas HealthCare System, has been named the campaign chair for United Way of Central Carolinas’ 2015 fundraising campaign in Anson County, which is now under way.

United Way has also set the date for this year’s Day of Caring in Anson, Oct. 17. Now in its 11th year, the event highlights United Way’s campaign season by bringing together the community for local acts of service to help neighbors in need.

“When we raise funds for United Way, that is money that will be invested in Anson County’s future, but Day of Caring allows us to make a difference right now,” said Diggs. “It’s wonderful to stand side-by-side with our neighbors and serve one another with dignity, and the United Way team always makes sure that it’s a fun celebration, too.”

The Oct. 17 Day of Caring kicks off with a free breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on the Wadesboro Town Square, then concludes with a lunch celebration hosted by First Baptist Church starting at noon.

Last year’s Day of Caring involved 148 volunteers from companies, churches, Scout troops, families and other groups of friends, who completed 27 projects in Ansonville, Morven, Peachland, Polkton and Wadesboro. Projects this year will include painting, cleaning gutters, pruning shrubs, window washing, trash pick-up and more, primarily at the individual homes of elderly or disabled neighbors.

United Way’s fundraising goal for Anson this year is $90,000. Last year’s local campaign raised more than $86,000 for Anson County.

Diggs joined United Way’s Anson board in May and also serves on the Community Investment Committee. Ashley Rivers Scarborough is this year’s Day of Caring chair. Gary Henderson is the 2015 chair of United Way’s Anson board of directors.
