To the editor:
Sadly, I read about Wadesboro Town Council considering canceling their recycles program because residents/the town does not follow recycling rules. Well folks, how about volunteers? This a time when we should all be working toward zero waste.
Please do whatever it takes to not only recycle but to act responsibly to keep our air, water, land and children’s bodies free of pollution. We can stop voting for politicians who favor NASCAR profits, oil and gas fracking, and relocating toxic and possibly radioactive coal ash to our local dump. We can follow the money with big media sponsored by these same polluters.
As former Wadesboro residents with many good friends in Anson and grandchildren with asthma in Union, we ask you to check these things out for yourselves — just Google articles like “How India is drowning in garbage” and “Shell Oil spills in Nigeria” for their decades-long disasters with oil and gas fracking.
Insist on clean air, water, energy and common-sense health for our communities. For instance, if you can’t afford to buy or lease solar, encourage those who can. At the very least, recycle responsibly and elect politicians who care more for you over polluters’ big money.
Remember, if you are not recycling, you are throwing it all away.
