HAMLET — Police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after posting a “Wanted” poster on social media.

The investigation started Saturday afternoon when officers responded to a call of shots fired, according to Detective Capt. Randy Dover.

When officers arrived on scene, they say 21-year-old Jaquan Tykeem Hart, of Raleigh Street, attempted to run from them. Someone who runs when police arrive to investigate shots fired is presumed to be impeding an investigation, Dover said Monday.

Hart was charged with a single misdemeanor count of resisting a public officer and released on a $1,500 unsecured bond.

It turns out Hart, who was not injured, was the intended victim, according to Dover.

Investigators say 21-year-old Damion Mosley, of McGirt Road, was the man behind the trigger.

The Hamlet Police Department uploaded a poster to its Facebook page late Monday afternoon, asking for help finding Mosley, saying he was considered to be armed and dangerous.

Dover said the department received reports Tuesday that Mosely was in the area of the Washington Court apartments and description of his vehicle was given.

An officer spotted the vehicle and stopped Mosely, allegedly finding a firearm stolen from Pinehurst and 1.9 grams of bagged cocaine, Dover said.

Mosely is charged with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of stolen firearm — all felonies.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail and given a $50,000 secured bond on the weapon and drug charges and was being held without bond on the attempted murder charge until his first court appearance, presumably scheduled for Wednesday.

Online court records show Mosely is already facing similar charges — possession of stolen firearm, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance — from an arrest last month by Hamlet Police. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday on those charges.

Records with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Mosley has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
