BURNSVILLE — Burnsville Recreation & Learning Center families are excited. In celebrating African American History, BRLC will continue to discover the history of their many ancestors. As we continue to dive deeper into our history we hope to learn and see the greatness in each of us.
On February 22, BRLC wanted to hear, see and engage in the importance of collecting, saving and storing one’s history.
Individuals wanted to share information of their ancestors’ family members. The event started off with the opening by Michelle Kiser and Victoria Horne.
Malerie Smith provided the reason or purpose for the event. The Negro National Anthem was presented by Helen Ingram of the Ansonville Community.
Anson County Historical Society’s Charles Holley provided concrete information on the importance of each individual’s history. If we forget our history, society will one day forget who we are. Your contribution will eventually be forgotten as well. Once Holley shared with the audience the importance of one’s history another spark of interest began to grow in the minds and hearts of the guests.
During the exciting time of learning, there were five different preselected individuals who had gathered information on their ancestors’ family tree. Their created story boards provided information about their family’s history which was very interesting.
The individuals that shared portions of their family tree were:
Victoria Horne — shared information of James and Yvonne Thomas Horne and family.
Michelle Kiser – shared information of James and Mamie Davis Kiser and family.
Deloris Hammond – shared information of great-grandfather Lewis Broadway and Eddie Davis Broadway family
Rachel Davis – shared information of Arvell Lindsey and Mamie Tyson Lindsey family
This time of awakening will continue to unveil monthly as we meet. We are meeting monthly in order to continue to discover.
