Festival organizers have finalized the showing schedule for the Wreak Havoc horror film festival taking place at the Ansonia Theatre this weekend.
The festival will feature several horror films hand-picked by judges. The films were made all over the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Argentina, Indonesia and more.
One feature length film, “The Mothertown,” is “a horror comedy from the UK that follows different groups of survivors in a small town during a zombie outbreak,” according to the festival program.
Several horror short films will also play. “These films are very entertaining; some of them are frightening and some of them are humorous but they’re all fun to watch,” festival organizers wrote in the program.
Some of the films are family-friendly, but those with more mature content are clearly marked as being explicit. One family-friendly short film, “Zombies4Kids,” is described as “a musical survival guide for children facing the undead.” Another, “Dead Hearts,” stars a mortician who gives away his heart for true love. The program describes it as “a whimsical, gothic bedtime story filled with love, loss, taxidermy, Kung fu, and biker werewolves.”
Near the end of the festival, an awards ceremony will recognize the best picture, best director, best actress and best actor. Following the ceremony, the festival will feature “Hank vs. Dracula,” a short film sequel to “Hank vs. The Undead.” Both films were made by Anson native Dan Sellers, who is also CEO of Wreak Havoc Productions, which is hosting the festival.
The other special exhibition will be the trailer for “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which will be a sequel to “Evil Dead II,” which was made in Anson County 30 years ago. The trailer will be followed by a full showing of “Evil Dead II,” which was directed by Sam Raimi, who also directed “Spider-Man.”
Tickets to the festival this weekend will be $7 for one day or $10 for both days. Runners and participants in the Wadesboro Escape the Zombies 5K can purchase a two-day ticket for $5. The festival will be hosted at the Ansonia Theatre in Wadesboro.
