Readin’ and a rockin’: Hampton Library announces summer schedule

From rock ‘n’ roll to actual rocks, the “Libraries Rock!” summer reading program at Hampton B. Allen Library aims to mix education with fun for readers of all ages.

Programs are split into three age groups: children age 5 to 12, teens age 13 to 17 and adults age 18 and up.

The following events are scheduled throughout the months of June and July:

Parks and Recreation – June 27

Partnership for Children – July 11

Joy the Clown – July 20

Games and Prizes – July 25

Teen Programs

Anime Music Video Showcase – June 13

Remix Music Video Program – June 20

Musical Painting – June 27

Fun with Perler Beads – July 11

Lip-Sync Battle – July 18

Karaoke Finale – July 25

Adult Programs

Geology with Aimee Colf – June 13

YMCA Presentation – June 20

Sheila Raye Dementia – June 27

Gardening with John Merek – July 11

Sheila Raye: Alzheimer’s – July 18

Shag Dance Class – July 25

No registration is required to attend. Families are encouraged to log reading minutes by registering online at or at to win free prizes. Grand prizes for the most minutes read are Visa gift cards ranging from $25 to $150 dollars for first, second and third place.
